The Road to 150 Million Miles

This week, XL Fleet reached a noteworthy milestone in our journey toward achieving our long-standing vision to becoming the world leader in fleet electrification. Our customers have now driven more than 150 million miles with our hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric propulsion systems – multiple times what most other commercial electrification providers in our space have logged thus far.

It’s an exciting achievement that everyone at XL Fleet can be proud of, no matter how long they’ve been a part of the business.  I’m very proud to be helping carry on a 12-year legacy of innovation, results and success that we’ve collectively achieved along the way. While there are too many landmarks to recognize here, there are a few in particular I would like to acknowledge.

Sustainability

XL Fleet was founded in 2009 with the goal of providing simple and cost-effective electrification solutions to help fleets save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to protect our environment and make the world a cleaner place to live. With every mile driven, our systems have helped our customers do exactly that. What does 150 million cleaner, greener miles actually mean for our sustainability-minded customers? In short, we have helped them collectively:

  • Save over 3 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel
  • Reduce over 26,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions
  • Add over 25,000 hours of driver productivity not spent refueling

Customers

Even in the Company’s early days, XL Fleet has had an opportunity to work closely with some of the most successful fleets from companies and organizations throughout North America. Many are household names. Some are small businesses. Quite a few are part of state, city and town governments. No matter what group they fall into, every one of them has invested in their sustainability efforts through their fleet vehicle choices.

Solutions

XL Fleet began producing hybrid electric propulsion systems in the early 2010’s, because that product line was the most cost effective and operationally viable option for fleets at the time. Ten years later, hybrid solutions remain an integral part of our business, even while adding an exciting array of plug-in hybrid electric options along the way. As the industry’s slow shift to full EV readiness continues to move forward, XL Fleet is committed to being on the forefront of that effort, with a series of low and zero emission vehicles planned across a wide range of industries and applications.

With many recent announcements of our expanding product line (including plug-in hybrid systems for GM vehicles, a strategic partnership with Curbtender to electrify the refuse market, and our first significant charging infrastructure announcement from the XL Grid division with UBS Arena and the New York Islanders), we are well positioned to continue to lead the commercial fleet industry into a new era of electrification for many years to come.

People

I can’t wrap up my thoughts celebrating this milestone without recognizing the collective efforts of our in-house and extended community of people that have made it possible. The customers we serve, the partners we work with, the team members who make it happen, and the new and long-standing investors who have supported us through the years, all deserve significant recognition and appreciation for their contributions to our success.

Our recent opening of a new fleet electrification technology center in Michigan is a testament to our ongoing investment in our people, as this strategic expansion will allow us to grow our engineering organization significantly and provide access to new automotive engineering talent to supplement the exceptional teams we already have in-house.

Knowing what we’ve achieved together so far, there is no limit to what we can accomplish over the next 150 million miles, and beyond.
