This month’s Profiles in XLence employee spotlight features John Heberlein, Production and Inventory Control Manager in XL Fleet’s Quincy, IL office.
1. How long have you been with XL, and what is your role?
I have been with XL since June of 2017, beginning in a part time role and then coming on board full time in April of 2018. In my role as Production and Inventory Control Manager in our Quincy, IL office, I am responsible for managing our incoming material, scheduling the production process from start to finish, and ultimately shipping our end products to customers throughout North America.
2. What is the best part of your job, or a favorite project you’ve been involved with, and why?
My favorite part of my job is working with my co-workers to produce a sustainable product that will benefit not only our clients, but our environment – both now and in the future. My favorite project was being an integral part of opening XL’s first branch office in Quincy, and helping it to become an integral part of XL’s company and culture.
3. How have you supported sustainability, either in your job or personal life? (Or both).
My colleagues at work and my family members at home try to be conscious of recycling and purchasing renewable products whenever we can. My family has been involved with many outreach opportunities, such as serving at our local soup kitchen, picking up garbage around our town, and packing backpacks with food for our students at a local elementary school.
4. What was your favorite job prior to XL, and why?
My favorite job before coming on board with XL was working at a water utility department as a licensed operator. I was involved with many infrastructure improvement projects while employed there. I enjoyed this because I was able to work with contractors, clients and co-workers to improve distribution, customer relations and customer satisfaction.
5. What is your favorite pastime outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending as much time with my family as possible. For favorite pastimes, I really enjoy golfing, music, and watching football, hockey and baseball. I am deeply involved with my church and serve at many levels in church and community outreach.
6. What is the last book you read and movie you saw?
I read sixty-six books, although not all of them at one time, in the greatest book of all, The Bible. We watch a lot of Netflix/Amazon Prime in our house and recently watched the entire Stranger Things Series.
